Introduction To Prophyrstone
Porphyry is a natural stone, widely used and known since ancient times for itspeculiar characteristics of high resistance to impact and wear and low maintenance.
Important relics and monuments in porphyry (“Porphyra” in Latin, from its purple and red color) are part of history in Assyrian-Babylonian, Egyptian and Roman sites.
Availability and great versatility of its natural quarry face has played an essential role on its broad range of applications, this stone has been quarried in every continent for domestic and industrial use through the centuries.
Porphyry Stone is a particular category of effusive volcanic rock, it presents a natural subdivision into vertical parallel slabs (Thickness may vary from 10mm to half a meter) and its made of a fine-grained microcrystalline vitreous groundmass (65%) , small 2-4 mm manly quartz crystals (30-35%) and Feldspar.
Some of the thicker and more renowned formations of closely fractured ignimbrites are to be found in Italy, Argentina, Australia and Mexico. Less thick, fractured formations are located in Japan, Turkey, Iran, Egypt, Spain and Greece.
The high compression breaking point, the high resistance to chemical agents and high sliding/rolling friction make of porphyry a very versatile and resourceful material which aside from its technical advantages offers an extensive range of chromatic options supported by limitless pattern solutions.
ALL PORPHYRY PRODUCTS HAVE 2 NATURAL QUARRY FACES, THE CHOICE OF COLOR AND TEXTURE IS SELECTED BY THE STONEMASON FOLLOWING THE SELECTED/APPROVED SAMPLE PANEL
Porphyry Stone supplied in paving for the construction industry usually have the following traditional dimensions:
ALL PORPHYRY PRODUCTS ARE SUPLLIED ON TIMBER PALLETS OR TIMBER CRATES
Random Tiles (Mosaic or Irregular Tiles) – MOSAIC OR RANDOM PATTERN OR SPECIFIED
These irregular slabs are sorted directly from the primary selection of quarry material. These polygonal tiles have a natural surface and rough edges; they are sorted by their diagonal sizes and variable thickness. (Small, Standard and Giant Size) Is the most requested Porphyry product, a credit to its flexibility to adapt on various design solutions, a low cost and simplicity of installation.

Cobblestones – TRADITIONAL ARC OR LINE PATTERN OR SPECIFIED
Out of all the different types of external paving, porphyry cobblestones have been the most popular throughout the ages due to their combination of natural beauty and ability to adapt to the most diverse uses.
The natural cleft surface is rather even and custom made patterns can suit even the most diverse design solutions.
Furthermore, their varying chromatic tonality offers to the designer the freedom to explore a personal aesthetic vision.
